Questions about your child’s IEP? Not sure what to make of their school evaluation results? Have questions about services and need support? We’re here to help guide you through the special education evaluation process.
psychoeducational evaluations
A psychoeducational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of a person's cognitive, academic, and socio-emotional strengths and weaknesses, used to understand how they learn, identify learning disabilities (like ADHD or dyslexia), and develop support plans, accommodations (like extended time), or interventions for academic and personal success. It combines standardized tests with observations and interviews to create a detailed "road map" for learning, helping determine eligibility for special education services (IEPs, 504 plans) or just understand challenges better.
therapy
We provide individual therapy for children ages 4-18 in person at our welcoming therapeutic space. Therapy for our clients involves playful, creative, or talking activities to help express feelings, build coping skills, and process experiences. We collaborate with parents to foster emotional growth and problem-solving in a safe, trusting environment. The process starts with building rapport, setting goals, learning new skills (e.g., mindfulness, impulse control, social skills, and understanding of self), and practicing them with parents learning to reinforce these strategies. Therapy uses a variety of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Play Therapy, to help children and families better understand themselves and meet their treatment goals
independent educational evaluation
An Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) is a private evaluation by a neutral, third-party professional that provides a second opinion on a child's special education needs. Parents of children with disabilities can request an IEE if they disagree with the results of the school's evaluation. We work with school districts, advocates, and attorneys in the Bay Area to provide assessments for families to ensure their child’s needs are being met.
professional development and consultation
We are available for professional development and consultation for school staff, parent groups, and community events. We offer both in person and virtual trainings on a wide variety of topics including the special education process, Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Executive Functioning, and other topics related to child development and mental health. We also provide IEP consultation to support students and their families in navigating the special education process to ensure they are receiving adequate evidence-based support.
gifted (iq) assessment
Children who are gifted are defined as those who demonstrate an advanced ability or potential in one or more specific areas when compared to others of the same age, experience or environment. These gifted individuals excel in their ability to think, reason and judge, and require unique educational supports to develop their potential and talents. We offer the WPPSI-IV and WISC-V for admissions for schools that serve gifted populations. We also support 2E testing (Twice Exceptional) learners who are simultaneously gifted and have a disability or learning difference.
parent coaching
Parent coaching is available as a service provided in addition to individual child therapy or as a standalone service. Parent Coaching is a collaborative process where a professional guide works with parents to develop personalized strategies for specific challenges, improve family dynamics, and understand child development, focusing on empowering parents with skills to handle behaviors and build stronger, more positive relationships. We use reflective practice to support caregivers in examining coexisting beliefs and assumptions. Parent Coaching is strength-based and future-focused, and offers practical tools, education, and support for creating more understanding within families
